The 5th Child and Youth Finance International Summit & Global Inclusion Awards Ceremony was held on 19-20 June 2019 at the Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Summit was organized by Child & Youth Finance International (CYFI) and hosted by The Banking Association South Africa (BASA), the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, the National Treasury – South Africa, the Department of Basic Education – South Africa and FinMark Trust.

The theme of the Summit,“Economic Citizenship and Employment: A Future for All” highlighted the importance of Economic Citizenship Education and inclusion as it relates to helping youth earn livelihoods.

Economic Citizenship Education (ECE) and financial access have seen much progress in the past years, with national strategies being developed and implemented in greater and greater numbers around the world. More than ever, innovation and joint actions are being undertaken in the fields of financial inclusion and Economic Citizenship Education are delivered, measured and reinvigorated. This Summit will bring together senior representatives from governments, the development community, financial institutions, other private sector actors, civil society and youth. Together these stakeholders will deliberate and highlight these innovations whilst also exploring how they can be leveraged and enhanced to address the yet unresolved, but crucial challenge of youth unemployment and therefore meaningful economic citizenship/participation.

A unique feature of the Summit, the Global Inclusion Awards (GIA), recognize and honor the efforts of organizations and individuals that achieve extraordinary results and sustainability in financial inclusion, economic citizenship education and entrepreneurial support for children and youth at the national, regional and international level.
